WHY Memory Matters

Our memories are all the stories we tell ourselves and shape who we are. They are a big part of our identity and the witness of the life we have led so far. They reflect what is important to us, who is important to us and the connections we have made. They reflect our values, our priorities. They reflect what matters most. In the end, memories are really all we are ever left with. So when things go awry - whether it be through an injury , an illness, or age related changes, our identity is threatened. Regardless of whether your memory has been impacted by known causes, or you just want to safeguard your memory, this course is for you.

WHO will benefit from this program?

There are 3 main groups of people who would benefit from this program.

  • If your memory has suffered due to illness, injury, disease or even normal ageing.

  • If you are a Speech Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Rehab Therapist, partner or caregiver working or living with someone with challenges with their memory.

  • If you are someone who wants to safeguard your memory and build memory resilience for the future. It is for those who want to master their memory, learn the tips and tricks and build up their cognitive reserve.

WHAT will this course provide you with?

  • This course will first provide participants with a basic understanding of their memory - what memory is, how memory works, the various functions and types of memory.

  • We will then do a deeper dive on what affects memory (injury, disease, fatigue, other cognitive communication factors) as well as the impact that environment and lifestyle have on our memory. We will also discuss modifications that can be made to support good memory health.

  • Finally, we will focus on the various tools and strategies (external and internal) that can be used to help compensate and improve memory.

WHEN and HOW to use this program

It is practice and not just learning that is most beneficial so it is recommended to do this program daily. It is broken down into short, digestible videos so you can easily schedule it into your day. If you are working with a therapist or worker (or if you are a treating clinician) then it may be helpful to commit to working on it a bit every session (with some application homework in between sessions).
